Some very interesting rule changes was made at this year’s AMA Congress.
The biggest news is the AMA Districts will no longer control the advancement of riders from C to B and B to A. Starting January 1, 2006, AMA will gather rider’s results from all the districts and advance riders based on a point system. A rider who rides in more than one district will be tracked by the AMA and the track will be able to access AMA’s data to check rider’s classification. Another rule will affect the 12-15 age class. Only 125cc will be allowed in this class, no 250 4-strokes. Finally the 125cc 2-strokes will be allowed to bore out to 144cc as long as the displacement is stamped on the cylinder, (Does not apply to youth classes). All of these rules have been approved by the AMA Board. I would recommend that you visit AMA’s website in December and download the 2006 rulebook.
When a rider signs up for AMA online, he/she will be assigned an AMA/ATVAA membership number and will be able to print out a temporary membership card good for 60 days. This was a
recommendation to AMA at this year’s congress. Along that line, if a rider does not have his/her AMA card at sign-up, AMA states that the track is putting themselves into a possible liability position.
They have stated that a member MUST SHOW a current membership card at sign-up. If not, the rider MUST sign up for AMA. The bottom line: KEEP YOUR CARD WITH YOU AND BRING IT TO SIGN-UP.
The District passed a rule that no other District point paying event can be held on a day of a STATE MX event. That takes out 3 days out of a possible 33 prime days. The North
has 15 tracks all within 100 mile radius of each other.
Leisure Time cannot hold races when Fulton Cty, D&D, Hangtime, MotoLand, Wildcat have scheduled an event and vice-versa. A track that runs a non-district 15 point paying AMA event will be excluded from holding a State MX race. On a positive note, riders should be happy that they have a wide variety of tracks to race every weekend.
LTGP will be running up to 4 GP events in addtion to 5 MX races for 2006. LTGP is also working with an insurance company to hold “Open Riding” days.
If this works out, LTGP will hold possibly 8 - 10 open riding dates. Stay tuned.
For 2006 we have added a “Iron-man” award in addition to the Sandmaster Awards. We are working on a sponsor for the 4 GP events. LTGP is also offering “SEASON PASSES” that in
addition to a $2 discount on gate fees for the 9 events, will also include 2 open ride days. Cost of the Season Pass is: $60.
A saving of $18 for 9 events and $40 for the open riding days. This is a limited offer so e-mail LTGP. LTP will mail applications and upon receipt of application with fees, a card will be mailed.
